I was a consultant to The Economist for a site redesign in 2000. During the initial interview with the Editor and the Design Director I was critiquing their website, projected large on a wall, and noted that they used red, their corporate colour, for numbers even though the connotation was that they represented monetary losses, which wasn't the case. Looking back, I think that was what helped them decide to go with me over the other people who applied for this assignment. (These are two designs I submitted. The web didn't have smooth anti-aliasing of type back then.)
