Product designer in New York City. Email: cwd@clementwu.com

At IBM I once joined a new business unit and the entire department convened online for some icebreaker exercises. One question asked of everyone was What drives you at work? My answer was that I want to make people's lives better through design. I sincerely mean that.

For example, there’s a financial reporting tool I worked on where I made an interface change that helped users enter numerical data more efficiently and correctly. Sexy? Ha no, but knowing that I saved people time and helped make their job less aggravating--and for the managers reviewing the numbers, too--was gratifying for me.

In addition to IBM I’ve designed for freelance clients including The Economist x Microsoft, Victoria's Secret, the State of New York/CUNY and others.

The Killer Language Series

The DVD packaging that I designed and wrote for The Killer Language Series, my graduate design school thesis product. I created a multimedia prototype with Final Cut Pro and Adobe AfterEffects which I also narrated in English and Cantonese in addition to designing the visual identity / branding. The faculty encouraged me to make this happen for real but alas, getting rights to the footage was a big obstacle.
